Chlorine is a commonly used chemical to achieve safe bacteriological and chemical purity in Hot tubs and swimming pools.

For hot tubs It must be present in the ‘free’ form to kill bacteria and oxidise organic matter derived from bathers.

Provided the water is balanced.

levels of between 3 and 5mg/l (ppm) are sufficient to maintain healthy, clean water.

A well managed chlorine treated spa will have no odour and levels of chloramines of less than 0.5mg/l.

For Swimming pools  It must be present in the ‘free’ form to kill bacteria and oxidise organic matter derived from bathers.

Provided the water is balanced, free chlorine levels of between 1 and 3mg/l (ppm) is sufficient to maintain clean water.

Therefore a well maintained treated pool will have no odour.
